Auditions

The River Valley Wind Ensemble seeks to identify highly-qualified and motivated individuals for our organization.  We play challenging band literature that requires highly-skilled musicians.  If you are interested in performing with the group, please contact the personnel manager for information. 

Auditions are held from time to time.  Any instrument may audition, as vacancies may occur during the season.  The audition panel will include members of the wind ensemble, including the conductor and manager.  Prospective performers should prepare the following:

• Perform a prepared selection (such as an etude, solo, or other composition) to display the candidate's tone quality, musicianship, and general playing characteristics (no more that 4-5 minutes).
• Perform two major scales in two or three octaves (called for in concert pitch).
• Perform sight reading selected by the audition panel.

We will also use a "get-acquainted" system whereby current members recommend musicians for openings.  These musicians may be invited to sit-in their section during rehearsals.  The principal chair, manager, and conductor will evaluate that musician.   Again, contact the personnel manager for more information.
